When I dip, you dip, we dip

Some children sing the alphabet or recite words to songs they learn on Sesame Street. My 5-year-old son was just humming a song featured in Beverly Hills Cop. The cashier at Target is apparently preparing to be a contestant on “Name that Tune.” She instantly named the artist and song. To assure her that I’m not a completely horrible mother I pointed out it was also in the movie, “Space Chimps.” My daughter sings Freak Nasty’s tune Da’ Dip. She learned it from a commercial. Back in the day I would curl my hair, peg my jeans and dance to that song in the club. My friend Jill recently spotted a guy with pegged jeans.

I can’t believe the horrible fashion from the 80′s that has come back. The kids in my son’s grade wear neon. Their shirts, socks and sneakers glow in the dark. A trip to the mall is like stepping into an episode of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” At least my daughter hasn’t started singing “Like a Virgin.” Yet.
