Oprah-less Book Club

I joined a book club. I haven’t read a book in years.  I don’t have time to read and watch reality TV on Bravo. Literacy vs. Real Housewives of New York? I done choose to watch me some trash television on that there boob tube. In all seriousness, I really would like to read more. However, after a very, very, very long day (which is everyday) taking care of three children a book is like Ambien. I pass out after one paragraph. I joined the book club to get out of the house alone. You know damn well I can’t even go to the bathroom without a child by my side. I wanted to enjoy a margarita while bitching about our husbands. I got a homework assignment. Talk about a buzz kill. Now, I have to drive all the way to the library which will take three entire minutes. Then, I have to face the librarian I have been dodging for months and pay the fine for a late book my son checked out. I am too cheap to buy a book that may or may not collect dust on my nightstand. Do people still have nightstands in 2013?

A few of the ladies brought a list of books they want to read. A good friend of mine brought this book:

I think that is a great selection. It is more my speed. The club voted for “Gone Girl.”  I am going to try to finish the book by our next meeting. I said try. In the meantime I will continue to lecture my children on the importance of reading. Do as I say not as I do.
