One of my favorite stories I covered as a reporter was about a kid named Jason McElwain or “J-Mac.” You may have seen him on network news. J-Mac was diagnosed with autism as a child. He was the team manager for his high school basketball team. For years he attended every practice and sat on the bench during games. Well, that is, until his coach let him suit up and hit the court. The rest is history. J-Mac played for 4 minutes and scored 20 points. His story inspired the nation. This story reminded me of “J-Mac” :
